Just read this in an email from Todd Falcone a very successful marketer and HBB owner online and offline.
The biggest scam in the U.S. is not a home based business. The biggest scam is a college degree and the belief that getting a degree will necessarily get you a good-paying job. Today, U.S. student loans now exceed U.S. credit card debt. Over $800 Billion dollars owed. And if many of you don’t realize, it can never be discharged in a bankruptcy. You have to repay it back.
Now…don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying college isn’t cool. I loved college. Hope my two boys go. But…think about that. People talk about home businesses and network marketing being scams, but the REAL scam is teaching people how to go build equity in somebody else’s company, rather than do their own thing.
College teaches us to do what? College teaches you how to go get a JOB. College teaches you how to go earn a WAGE and work for someone else. Are you saving thousands a month at even $20 to $25 an hour? Probabaly not!
Yes…other than our Social Security system (which the average check at retirement in this country is $497.50…who can live on that?–no wonder retirees are still working), which I will NOT get into much more detail today, one of the biggest scams being perpetuated onto the public is the idea that if you go to college, invest tens of thousands of dollars, you can actually get a good paying job and live your dream.
Kinda thought that was interesting. Don’t you think? Think I’ll stick to being an entrepreneur…how bout you? Besides we all know Robert Kiyosaki says as a w-2 employee you get squeezed by taxes and as a HBB owner you can take advantage of all those write offs of the tax system to get ahead. So in closing do as the masses do and get what the masses get OR do what successful people do and get what they get!
It’s just a choice…good food for thought as it just makes sense! The question is which choice are you making? Thanks Todd!

Thx for the comment Deborah..Some will some won’t as always:) But for those of us that do we are well ahead right? As always the mind is like a parachute it only works when it is open. I don’t mind skeptics at all…it’s the cynical one’s that most prefer not to deal with. Can’t help close minded people and that’s ok:) Hope to see you on the beaches as well!
I understand what you are saying. I agree that to go to college or university and just float along and come out with a degree in liberal arts, or even a business degree and think that you are set for life is a mistake. If all you have when you enter the job market is a B.A.there is about a 50% chance that you’ll end up flipping burgers, or delivering pizza somewhere.
Just a few years ago I had a sister in law that was getting her undergrad in accounting and her husband was working on Computer sciences degree. They were nearly 4 years into their respective programs and still a few credits short of being Juniors. At that time, they already had student loans in excess of $100,000 and when they got their Pell Grant money for the Fall session, they ran out and bought a color TV and an Xbox within 24 hours. There is no chance that a young couple with 3 kids and their undergraduate degrees will be able to make enough to payoff their student loans.
So yes, I understand what you are saying. However, we need to be careful about who the advice is for because we also have our future physicians in there along with all the other sciences and engineering students. The ones that do all the research that is done that produces tomorrows innovations and cures.
I think to make a general statement like “the biggest scam in America” is wrong, and reckless. I believe we need to do a better job of managing the students that are getting the student loans. Now, more than ever, we need for the best and the brightest of our kids to go to the college or university of their choice and learn and to do the kind of research that has been done there for many years.
I agree, to say that college is the biggest scam in America is reckless and inaccurate. College is not for everyone, but for those who do choose college they have a better chance of getting a better job than those who choose not to go. However, only a few people have the mindset to become an entrepreneur. They are usually found in the 1%. For them, it is hard to work for someone else. A true entrepreneur will only find contentment in being free to build their own empire, however they will be looking for educated people to run that empire. But I am happy for those people who find contentment in being housekeepers, waiters, nurses, doctors, lawyers, custodians, removers of waste, police officers, teachers, cashiers, God bless them all, they help the world to be a better place.
Very nice to hear your view. Learning to be an entrepreneur takes a while and some of us struggle to get in the right mind set.
Society does need scientists and doctor though.
Keep up the good work.
Chris
Student loans ARE the next big subprime mortgage economic meltdown.
Hi Arlie…interesting point for sure. Did you get my message yesterday?
Agreed, a 5 bachelor in chemistry n a minor in Microbiology and working for 5 yrs temporary positions with lower payment every time a contract end. Its lame.

The thing is this, some people are happy going to school and finding careers that suit them. Then there are some who can not work for others, they are only happy when they work for themselves. Not everyone walks to the same beat. Some people are meant to be worker bees, and they are content to be in that role, and some people are meant to be queen bees. We all can’t be entrepreneurs, because then who would drive buses, who would clean homes, who would dump trash, who would be doctors, nurses, teachers, who would run the grocery stores, who would serve in food places. College is needful to learn different skills, even entrepreneurs benefit from college courses that teach you how to run a business. I agree, that to say that “college is the biggest scam.” is reckless, and inaccurate.
Thx for your comment…it’s great that people have choices to choose whatever avenue they pursue in life:) as the article said the “idea” and assumption was the article’s point as to what Todd was saying in his quote. Diversity is good or else this world would be boring IMHO:) Have a GREAT day!
Wow i like the the way you explain… For me I think everyone need college degree to learn and to earn more knowledge. And I also believe each one of us have its own destiny. Your success is at your hand, its really up to you how to deal your life to reach your dreams, your goals, your lifestyle you wanted too, whatever your degree is really doesn’t matter as long as you have guts and strong determination, you have to believe in yourself of what you do, be confident, have heart to help people then you will be successful….I read a great article this morning about this healthy energy drink its awesome and fantastic opportunity to everyone try to take a look this site that you might interested in http://www.my24kVIP.com & enter this code to save “healthydrink”….thanks
What I gather from Todd Falcone’s article is that the biggest scam is not home based business but rather the belief that getting a degree will guarantee you getting a good-paying job.
However, at the end of the day, what college graduates find themselves with is a mountain of debt in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Contrast that with running a home based business where you still have to educate yourself and apply what you learn and in the end you could leave your children and grand children with a legacy as opposed to a mountain of debt that they will have to pay out of your estate.
To quote Todd, he said “I’m not saying college isn’t cool. I love college. Hope my two boys go”
I see that Todd isn’t against college but is enthusiastic about being an entrepreneur and want others to see that too.
In closing I will say that not everyone can be an entrepreneur but you will agree with me that the doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants who operate their own business do better than those who work at a job.
